About Along
Along is a town located in the West Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh. The town of Along is located about 150 kms from the Assam border in Likabali. Along has an average elevation of 619 meters above sea level. It is a beautiful valley town with picturesque mountains and rivers flowing through it. The rivers Sipu and Siyom flow through the Along valley and converse in Belun Ghat to finally merge with the mighty Brahmaputra.
Demography of Along
According to the 2001 census, Along had a population of 16, 834. The average literacy rate of Along is 69%. The town has 75% of literate males and 61% of literate females.The town is mostly inhabited by the Gallong tribe, which is also known as the Adi tribe. Language spoken by the locals here is the Galo language and the primary religion is Donyi-Polo. Other existing religions here are Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam.
Culture of Along
The people here have been residing in this place since a very long time and have been successfully able to keep its ethnicity alive. They celebrate the festival Mopin on 5th and 6th of April every year. This festival is celebrated for having a very rich cultivation in its fields.
Another festival celebrated in this place especially to give a boost to tourism is the Yomgo River Festival. It is celebrated from 11th to 15th January lasting for around four days. The festival promotes the culture and tradition of the place.
